The year 2017 will be a whole new experience for me as Professor Emeritus. It seems such a short while ago when I started as a teacher in a village school and began my studies in school pedagogy and educational sciences. But it is more than 42 years ago, and of course many things happened. Having received four Awards this year (from Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, the American Educational Research Association, the European Educational Research Association and the European Commission), 2016 has been an amazing year. My farewell conference and address in October, and the farewell party from the chair group of Education and Competence Studies a week later, were absolutely heart-warming. To all my colleagues with whom I had the privilege to work together: a big thank you!
It is time for new challenges, of which the supervision of a group of PhD candidates, and my work for NCOI, the largest private training provider in the Netherlands, are the most prominent. I very much look forward to this interesting year.
